February 11th, 2017 – Designer, Yuna Yang Showcased “The Lights in the Shadow” Fall 2017 RTW

Designer, Yuna Yang, showcased her FW 2017 collection that was inspired by women taking a stand in troubled times.

To show how “light shines brighter in the darkness,” Yuna Yang’s FW17 collection juxtaposes looks with bold prints and dancing colors and dark/light pieces that play with chiaroscuro, such as dark velvet and light fabric. Yuna Yang was inspired by women, in protest in the streets of South Korea, the US Women’s March and elsewhere. With the FW 2017 runway show, Yuna Yang celebrates women who make their social and political voices heard, “the power of one person holding a candle.”

Social and political movements have always expressed their inner light through fashion, whether suffragettes or hippies. YUNA YANG’s F/W17 collection pays homage to people who hold on to hope and belief in shadowed times. Yuna’s collection features prints with dancing lights and measured shadows.  70’s the wider shape pants with bold flower prints recreated with bold modern flower prints, by using metallic fabrics, sweatshirts transformed as sophisticated day to evening wear and trendy loungewear became sophisticated French lace pajamas with silk piping details. Methods of chiaroscuro, such as black lace and light fabric, bring depth to her designs.
